The professional shear market has become crowded with products of inconsistent quality, often sold at premium prices. Shears of comparable materials and construction are frequently offered between $1,400 and $2,200. We believe there is a more honest way to do business.

MIKARU SHEARS represent a collaboration between traditional craftsmanship and modern precision engineering. Technology allows us to achieve greater consistency, accuracy, and production efficiency while reducing the unnecessary costs associated with entirely handmade manufacturing.
The human element, however, remains essential.
Depending on the model, each MIKARU shear passes through approximately 175 to 200 individual production and finishing stages before completion. These include forming, machining, heat treatment, grinding, polishing, hand finishing, edge refinement, assembly, tension adjustment, weight balancing, inspection, and performance testing.
The result is a professional instrument created to feel natural in the hand, move smoothly through the hair, and maintain reliable cutting performance.
Japanese Steel and Purposeful Blade Design
MIKARU SHEARS are produced using VG10 and other high-grade Japanese steels selected for their hardness, edge retention, strength, and dependable professional performance.
Different blade combinations are engineered for different cutting techniques, including:
- Japanese convex blade against convex blade
- Convex blade combined with a katana-style sword blade
- Convex blade paired with a bamboo-leaf blade
- Specialized blade formations for sliding, detailing, precision cutting, texturizing, and blending
Our texture and blending shears are carefully balanced and hand-finished to create controlled removal, natural movement, and clean results without unnecessary pulling, folding, or visible cutting marks.
Designed Around the Human Hand
A professional shear is used repeatedly throughout the working day. Its design should protect the stylist as carefully as it serves the haircut.
MIKARU handles are shaped around the natural movement and physical anatomy of the hand, wrist, and arm. Our ergonomic designs are intended to reduce fatigue, improve control, and limit the strain associated with repetitive cutting movements. Selected configurations are developed to support a more relaxed working position for professionals experiencing wrist pressure or carpal tunnel-related discomfort.
Balance, handle geometry, finger positioning, blade weight, and tension all work together. The objective is not simply to produce a sharp shear, but to create an instrument that feels stable, responsive, and comfortable during extended professional use.
